Appliance Mystery

Here’s the rice cooker that was left behind by the previous group. Can any tell me how to use it?

Looks pretty basic... My guess is it functions much like a coffee maker...put water in the bottom part first (maybe a cup?)... put some rice in the interior bowl... turn it on and the water heats up and converts into steam to cook the rice, and then it has a warming setting to keep the rice warm without overcooking it and drying it out... give it a try someday when you can watch and keep an eye on it...

P.S. I forgot to mention it appears to be a pressurized system (pressure cooker) which means it will cook the rice faster... the device at the top seems to be a pressure relief valve to prevent the steam pressure from becoming too great inside the appliance. During normal cooking it may open and release steam and make a hissing sound... this is normal for a pressure cooker. Just be careful when opening the thing... any pressure should be bled off first, then open the top carefully to avoid being scalded... Be careful!
